A Constantia couple are so green that they’re the first Cape Town citizens to sell power to the City – at the same price Eskom does. Leigh de Decker and Mark Bleloch have covered their roof in photovoltaic panels, with an inverter in the garage, which pushes the power back into the grid. The couple claim that they receive 56c per kilowatt hour.
Thus far this season they are completely energy independent. They plan to entirely pay off all the installations costs (R156 000) within 4 years.
